Saturday, May 24th, the club held a general
meeting at Crozet Park: the weather cooperated (cool, no rain), we had gobs of
food for lunch and even more Berners. We had a short club meeting which focused
on our upcoming Sept draft tests – we are getting close enough that we need to
start getting into the weeds of planning. We’ll have a general theme of
drafting a la beer – think beer barrels for use in our obstacle ring. Also, one
of our judges, Steve Dudley has agreed to come early and lead a one on one
workshop the Friday before the tests – to help draft teams do some final
tune-ups. This Friday event is not just for teams entering the tests – if
others, including club members wish they can also take advantage of this
opportunity with Steve. Steve is known far and wide for his great knowledge of
drafting and his great supportive attitude.
After the club meeting, we had two hands on our
berner activities: grooming lessons lead by Andrea Stefanac and a dog walk
around the park. Andrea generously not only talked about the details of how to
groom – for every day and for the show ring. Soon Andrea had at least one
Berner ready for Westminster.
Some of the other folks took their dogs for a
walk around the park. This walk included areas that we have used in previous
years for our final part of the draft tests- the half mile freight haul which
includes going around the half acre park pond.
